Become a PADI Instructor, share your passion, travel the world and make a difference.

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) consists of two components: the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most dive professionals complete both parts of the IDC before participating in the Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step toward becoming a certified PADI Instructor.

Completing only the AI course leads to certification as a PADI Assistant Instructor. When ready to advance, an AI can enrol in the OWSI program, which qualifies them to take the IE and achieve full PADI Instructor certification.

Pricing Information

The full cost of the Assistant Instructor, the EFRI, and the Open Water Scuba Instructor course is $4000, and takes 9 days.

We will pay all your PADI application fees and materials, and eLearning costs. That includes all pool sessions, boat fees, and trips.

At the end of your 9 days, we give you two fun days on the water, remembering why you started in the first place! It can be at the end of your course, or you can come back and celebrate after your IE.

What does the course involve?

All independent online E-learning must be completed in advance of the IDC. This includes the assignments that are set during your eLearning (marketing plans, etc), and these assignments MUST be brought with you to the orientation session along with all your training materials.

The pre-study allows you to start the course already understanding the basic standards and procedures of being an Instructor, which means that class time may be dedicated to learn how to apply standards, apply prescriptive teaching techniques and how to market courses effectively.

Before your Instructor Development Course, you must complete all online components. If it is not completed by the first night, you will not be allowed to continue with the IDC, and there will be a $200 transfer fee to transfer to the next course, or a daily catch-up fee as and if required.

The IDC is not designed to teach you the skills or knowledge needed to become a Divemaster. It is important that you practice your skills and completely review your dive theory learnt during your Divemaster training prior to beginning the IDC.

(We can offer a two-day DM-IDC Workshop. Both days are spent completing theory revision and skill circuits in our on-site pool)

It is strongly recommended that you completely review the Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving and Knowledge Review Work Book prior to the IDC. Once you start your IDC, you won’t have time to do this study.

As soon as you are ready to commit, we will give you a PADI code, and your study starts online. We are here to help you along the way, but you have to dig deep as well.
