Leatherjacket, male.

Leatherjacket (Kokiri) Parika scaber
SIZE: 45 cm
HABITAT: Reefs, sand, kelp and mid-water.
DIET: Wide variety including sponges and ascidians.
BEHAVIOUR: Can swim backwards or forwards by undulating their dorsal and anal fins. They protect themselves by locking erect their dorsal spine, making it impossible for predators to swallow them.
