Despite the tsunami and the earthquake, New Zealand is open for business, and Tourism New Zealand are marketing in areas to encourage travelers, and to reassure them, that travelling to NZ is still awesome, and safe.
After last month’s devastating earthquake in Christchurch, Tourism New Zealand has been working closely with a wide range of Government and non-Government agencies to assist and support the overseas travel trade and other partners to cope with the impact of the earthquake on travelers. We are now in a position to strengthen the message that, while Christchurch city needs time to recover, New Zealand tourism is absolutely open and operating.
Kevin Bowler, CEO of Tourism New Zealand had this to say…
“I am conscious that in paying our respect we must also keep in front of those who are planning to visit, or considering a visit. This is why we adjusted our current marketing campaigns immediately after the earthquake. The needs of future travellers are still recognised and we have been preparing PR and campaign responses….
I recognise there is more to do. I am acutely aware of the challenges the tourism sector - not just in Christchurch - is experiencing throughout the country as a consequence of the earthquake and we are focussed on doing everything we can, as quickly as we can, and as sensitively as we can to support the industry.”
What they asked all operators to do, was to take a snapshot right now of their experience (or a recent one they have), along with a short message. TNZ will use these to form a giant montage of messages and pics that literally show New Zealand is open.
We had heaps of fun getting the shots together, and hope you enjoy our snapshot of New Zealland, and the Poor Knights RIGHT NOW.
