As soon as we descended I immediately knew why this area was one of Jacque Cousteau’s ten best places to dive. The floor was lush with orange kelp and teaming with all types of sea life. Apart from being within inches of a Moray Eel and only a few feet away from Eagle and Sting Rays, two of which were pregnant, we also spotted a seal cruising along the rocks.
Orca, southern right whale and calf, sharks, seals and dolphins. Oh yeah, a green turtle too!

A mass stranding of 58 pilot whales, mobilized over 250-300 people, touched the hearts of the nation, and everyone waited with bated breath as the volunteers busted a gut, went without sleep for 40 hours, touched a star or two on the way, and saved nine pilot whales. This is part of their story.
